It’s been a minute but I’m back! And who best to get us back into Glimpses than a couple I don’t think we’ll ever get enough of? Summer and Jayce will appear in an upcoming release of mine, but I wanted to give you a peek at them before then.
Enjoy!
And if this is the first time you’re hearing about these two, treat yourself to their story, Pride – book one in the Love is Cure Vol. 1 – Vices & Virtues series – once you are done with their Glimpse.
Summer & Jayce
… “Summer, baby, I’m back.”
Summer turned in her seat and away from her vanity mirror before standing to her pedicured feet.
She couldn’t contain her excitement as she adjusted the strap of her pearlescent plunge under-wired bralette that matched her lace full brief. Summer grabbed both ends of the short silk kimono she wore over her lingerie set, tying the kimono’s thin belt tight around her cinched waist.
She didn’t hesitate to take quick steps toward her bedroom door, taking even larger steps in the kitchen’s direction where she heard her fiancé Jayce’s voice.
“Did you get it?!” she asked as she neared.
Summer and Jayce’s Upper West Side condominium wasn’t the largest. But it was spacious enough for her to take a little time to get to him. And she couldn’t wait to see for herself if he’d granted her one and only New Year’s Eve wish.
To celebrate the end of the year with a chilled bottle of Pommery Cuvee Louise Champagne.
“Well,” he started, uncertainty heavy in his tone, “it’s not exactly what you asked for.”
She wrapped around the corner wall that separated their corridor from their kitchen.
The moment her eyes zeroed in on the bottle of champagne he bought, she faltered in step, and her smile morphed into a pout.
The brand of champagne wasn’t what she asked for.
It wasn’t even close.
“I said expensivechampagne.” She closed the space between herself and the bottle, stopping opposite him on the other side of their kitchen island. Her dainty fingers coiled around the bottle’s neck, turning the green bottle on the counter so she could read the label. “This is—”
“Expensive,” Jayce finished. “Expensive to me.”
Summer sighed with disappointment.
“Baby, this champagne right here is $80 a bottle.” Jayce eased the bottle out of her grip to lift it. “And the guy at the wines and spirits store swore this was the best he had in stock.”
Summer blinked twice. “Baby, did you go to the hood to get this?”
“My hood.” He nodded. “For sure. Got one for moms too. She was more than happy about it.”
Her lids collapsed closed. She opened her eyes to his. Her attention moving to the fitted Yankee he wore, to his hoodie and joggers get up he donned only on the weekends. A complete contrast to the designer suits he now sported to the law firm they once competed against each other in, in an internship program they joined fresh out of college.
Jayce dressed himself that day like he was going ‘round the way, as he always put it. His old neighborhood in Brooklyn. And while she loved going to his hood too sometimes, she didn’t want him to get the champagne she planned for them to ring in the new year together with from there.
“Did I imagine telling you where to go to get the Pommery Cuvée Louise Champagne I said I wanted you to buy?”
“Nah, baby.” He smirked. “You didn’t imagine it at all. But.” He licked his lips. “Tomorrow’s the first of the month.” He nodded next. “And yeah, it’s New Year’s Eve and all, and yeah, tomorrow is New Year’s Day but, baby, the utilities and HOA fees are still due for this expensive ass spot you insisted we live in.”
A frown weighed her lips down and then her shoulders.
Jayce sighed in defeat, swaggering to her. “Aww come on, Summer. Don’t be like that.”
Jayce circled his arms around her from the front, tightening his forearms’ grip around her waist. “You got on this sexy ass silk… umm…whatever it is you call this thing, you got on. Looking better than a new year.” He took her chin in between the pinch of his thumb and index fingers. “Don’t put that face on. You know I fold every time.”
“What I have on under this is sexier. It’s La Perla.” She blinked twice at him. “I’m wearing the La Perla under this, and I spent my entire check last week on the bra and panties alone.”
He peeked down at the kimono once more and licked his lips again, this time slower. “And while this is amazing on you and I’m sure what you got on under is even more fly… baby, you spending your entire check on lingerie was not wise and not what we agreed to do.”
“Ugh!” Summer whined, dropping her head back between her shoulders. “I’m so very poor.”
Jayce barked a laugh. “Says the woman standing in the middle of her Upper West Side condo wearing expensive ass lingerie that is out of the budget we discussed sticking to.”
Summer leveled her head again to lock eyes with him. He twisted the rim of his fitted to the back and closed the distance between their lips to leave a soft, warm kiss against hers.
And she moaned. Because, dammit, his lips always felt like sunlight as a human touch against hers.
She relished in his warmth, following his lips a little when he broke their kiss.
Summer sighed in defeat, her attention returning to the champagne bottle.
She knew the brand.
And it was… okay… according to her.
The champagne Jayce bought was up there in price and cost way more than she and Jayce should spend. Especially with wedding planning in the works. Summer’s father promised to pay for their wedding, but their honeymoon expenses were all on Summer and Jayce. And Summer was not willing to budge on Bora Bora.
And… Bora Bora was far from cheap or what they could afford without living on a budget, as they’ve been doing, while saving up for the two-week long vacay.
She focused on Jayce again. He smiled that amazing smile of his. The sexy smile that made her stomach muscles flutter and her heart skip beats. A smile that made her moan on an exhale and that she couldn’t resist smiling back at when he flashed it her way.
She rolled her eyes, annoyed with herself, and he chuckled.
“Fine,” Summer conceded.
Jayce arched a brow.
“It’s only champagne,” she started. “Expensive in its own way, I suppose.”
His eyes darted between hers, trying to read her.
“I have an amazing man who loves me, perfection and all, because you know I’m perfect, right?”
He snorted, and she smirked.
“I have a man who never asks me to compromise on anything else, so…” She cleared her throat. “I guess…” Summer rolled her eyes again, this time because it just killed her inside a little to concede. “I can quit overreacting for once.”
His smile returned, this time pulling his lips wider at the sides of his mouth. “My girl.”
“But.” She coiled her arms around his neck and he pulled her closer. “I will not compromise on Bora Bora. I want expensive everything over there. You got it?”
“I promise.” Jayce leaned in close and pressed his mouth to hers. “As Mrs. Martin, you will have whatever you like.”
He bent his legs at the knees and took her into his arms. She squealed as he hoisted her up onto their kitchen island and he moved in between her legs.
“We got about three hours before midnight,” he said, pulling up his hoodie at the hem, Summer helping him to get it over his head. Jayce pecked her once more on the lips and rested his forehead against hers. “Let’s start this celebration off the right way.”
Summer smiled. “Let’s.”…..
